A friend has an 8000 watt, DeVilbiss portable generator that will not put out power. We have employed the techniques outlined in the information accompanying the unit, but still no power. The 2 cyl eng starts and runs fine, but no out put power. We have connected a 6v lantern battery to the windings terminals to the capacitor, (per instructions) to recharge the "residual magnetism", we have also revved the unit full throttle for approx 3 seconds (per instructions) still no power.
I have checked continuity and all seems ok.
I do not understand the rotor, it has 2 windings, one end of each is soldered together and grounded to a disk at the outboard end of the rotor, the other end of the windings are connected together and are connected to the positive end of a diode which is mounted on the same disk.
The maker says they are not allowed to give out the wiring diagram to anyone but a liscend electrician, therefore would not provide.
Any suggestions????

Don't know about your model sepcifically but have repaired a couple of my own before. The problems I encountered was "exciting the field". There should be a low voltage source that feeds the armature. In my small (4500w) port gen it was a dirty brushes, clean with emery cloth and it was good to go. On my bobcat 225 welder/gen, it was the adj reststor that sets the input voltage/current to the arm. Cleaned the contacts and off it went. Be careful though electricty kills..... ..
