Im not new to welding but have never used flux core wire may be building a whole bunch of welded pipe fence and i know i could use stick or mig this will be done outdoors so gas and solid wire is less than ideal how bad is flux core for overhead or vert. welding thanks mike

Hi Mike,

Flux cored wire runs just like any stick rod and welds great. On pipe and this being a fence, I suggest you tack it three places, off center top, on each side at 4 and 8 o'clock. Then start at the top and run down to the bottom then repeat on the other side. Use a little side to side ossilation as you come down as this will help the bead lay flat. I usually tack alot hotter than I weld at so the tack is smaller and flat.

Hi Mike search the links below for flux core wire they had a discussion last weak about it and I think most seed that there is more splatter but if setup right there isn’t much difference
