I am thinking of making a tool that would be used on concrete block, brick and concrete. What kind of steel would be suitable for this? I was thinking of something in the line of the steel that is used for the teeth on trac-hoe buckets or air chisels. Can any of you machinist guys help me? Thanks.

Thanks for the info guys, that's a good idea about buying a tool and modifying it. What kind of steel do they use in sledge hammers?

I suggest using AR-Plate or T1. T1 is commonly used on fifth wheel plates of semi-trailers

I would use S-7 tool steel I works well under impact but A-2 D-2 O-1 would probable work well to what are you going to use it for

It would be a hammer/sledge type tool, able to withstand heavy use.

Hi Rod,

Would buying a stone working tool at HomeDepot then modifiying it to fit the need be cost effective?

That probable would work if John S-B could adapt it to what he wants it for if not use S-7. S-7 is for impact type tooling lick chisels but it’s very hard to work with like working with D-2
