I was reading over on the American Welding Society's Forum about the "Evolution Portable Steel Saw." One of the guys said he has seen it cut 1/2" steel "like plywood." Has anyone been around one of these things?

Here are two links to the saw:

First - I don't know a thing about this particular saw.

Second - I do have, use & love my DeWalt, Multi saw, which is like a chop saw using a carbide blade to cut metals. It has a nice, stout vise to securely hold the work to the table. What I do know is when using the bench mounted MultiSaw, with the work securely held in the vise you'd better have eye, ear & body protection! I mean this baby can latch on to, and FLING a piece of steel right through your head! Stand back & get the kids in another room! Stuff will really fly!

I can not begin to imagine holding such a beast in your hand! No way I'd try it! There are too many other, much safer ways to cut steel!

Hi JRN,

Ya but you didn't say that you need to wear BOTH ear plugs and ear muffs to use the saw. Then theres the viberation in your hands. After a 2ft cut it feels like your hands are cramped up the rest of the day.
And the metal chips flying all over the place.

No I have not used this saw but have used a skill saw and a carbide blade put in backwards to cut 1/8" aluminium. Although it's the best way to cut AL, I sure pawned off the saw cut to someone else when I could :)

I have my reservations about this saw until I see it in action.
