Howdy people bought a 14" cutoff saw at an auction this summer it was imported by American Tool Exchange. Model 11014. This saw has a very hard time cutting thru any metal. Saw was new when bought but stalls out under load. I ran it without load to break in the brushes for approx 15 minutes but no change in cutting ability.Any ideas and no I can't take it back. Thanks

Bought a Small 2 gallon air compressor off eBay. After a very short time the piston rod bearing blew and I was able to get a replacement at the auto parts store a $11.00 . Shorty after ward the intake valve broke and yes this is "JUNK!"

Sincerely, Big Daddy

My wife recently got me a bench style drill press on e-bay that is from American Tool Exchange. It came without a chuck key and I am finding it impossible to find a key for a 1.5 13mm B 16 chuck.
The manufacturer includes a parts list with the product, but when you call them they have no parts on hand. Junk

check the blade type - mine came with a masonary blade in it - switched to metal cutting and it works just fine (harbor freight import special)

I bought a ATE 18V cordless drill from a discount tool store. I charged the two batteries for the recomended time. When used the batteries will discharge in less than one minute. If I charge them and don't use the drill for a few days they will be discharged when I take the drill from the case. My drill is, American Tool Exchange Drill #17190. It,s JUNK!!!

Not familiar with that brand, but if an extension cord is long and light gauge, any equipment such as this will perform pooorly. Use as short a cord as possible and the heaviest gauge that is practical.

i have found over the years it is better to save up for tool rather than buy an off brand i'm [72].
retired from gm supervised tool repair people. we had fair trade rules so we could not just buy one brand name tool. politicly correct don't you know.

It's just another name for generic Chinese imports. Same as HF, but probably with much lower quality standards.

I am a distributor with a company that sells the American Halogen #33068. Is there anyone out there who has one of these and finds that it will only run continously for around 30 mins? I am also looking for more info on who owns/runs this American Tool Exchange.

ATE are China made tools of less than quality for the most part. Got an outlet here that handles a lot of their stuff as well as many other import items. Every power tool I have seen from ATE is undre powered for any serious work but they do have their place. The chop saw like you asked about is not going to compare to one from Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, ect. but will suffice for light cutting such as threaded rod and sheet metal if fed slowly. It is not intended to be a speed cutting machine where you can whack off a piece of 1" re-bar in eight seconds as you can with quality saws. For the occasional DIY'er use cutting a piece here or there with no time constraints, most likely it is an inexpensive hassle saver where one can justify spending the 25 bucks on it to sit on a shelf most of its life. If you're looking for a saw that will give years of service and handle production/construction work, you better be looking at one in the $250+ line.

ATE does have some decent stuff but much the same as harbor freight, you have to pick through all the crap to find it. I'm not saying that all the import stuff is crap, some of it is actually good quality. Before you buy, look at where the item is made. Taiwan built items are usually pretty decent and sometimes better than other brands selling at three times the price. Metabo is import yet they are top of the line tools. Every Rigid power tool I have looked at in Home Depot is Taiwan, never purchased any myself but know a lot of contractors that swear by them.

ATE is not limited to china either, they brand a cast steel vice made in Taiwan that if put side by side with the Jet brand is identical to it yet sells for 75% less. On the same note, H-F sells the 7"x12" metal cutting band saw that is all cast iron and very well built in Taiwan for around $700 w/ free shipping and coolant system while the Cheapest domestic brand saw of the same size sells for $1100 with coolant systems and shipping are extra... yet this saw is made stamped sheet metal is nowhere near as well made or accurate cutting.

I just burned up 3 ATE 4 1/2" angle griders. All 3 were t he same price as 1 name brand. They are so under powered, when the cutting wheel touch's metal, the rpms drop to 1/2 full speed. Even being carefull to hold the weight of the grinder up, and very light contact with the metal, the 2nd burned up. Since the first 2 smoked in less than 3 min. I decided to test the 3rd. I turned it on, holding it in the air and ran it. within 4 min. the grinder smoked to a stop. So my review is if you want to grind air, and will be finnished in less than 4 min. you could get away with buying ATE tools. If you actualy want to use a tool for its intended purpouse, do not throw your money away on ATE. You will still have to buy a better built tool to finnish the job. May as well skip the buy ATE, throw away ATE and just buy a tool that will do the job.
