I know that using these big wrenches are not going to be an everyday use occasion. I too have had to buy them because of need. You may try the garage sales, pawn shops, and flea markets. If your wanting an American made brand name, you should be able to find them in these places. Another source would be to go to Sears and buy the Craftsman brand. These are good tools that have a warranty and are not as pricey as Mac or Snap-On. Or try your local COOP or a Gebos they too have American made tools and the price isn't as high as the name brand tools.

Hi Jim.
Thanks for the reference. I work for Gebo's in Dalhart Tx. The wrenches we sell are called Pro-Grade. I don't think they are American made, however, they seem like a good tool. I've bought several of the larger sizes. BTW they have a lifetime warranty.

Is the Gebo's Store in Clovis NM still open? I will be moving back there in Dec/Jan. Have shopped there and at ones in Texas. The one in Hillsboro Texas is not far from home and have bought more than a few items there.

Yes, I am going BACK to Clovis. This not really by choice, as I only had one other choice. I was there from Aug 93 to Dec 97. Like the old saying goes "make the best of it" and that is what I will be doing for the 34 (approximate) months that I might have to be there. I grew up in Corpus Christi and my father's farm is in Central Texas. Was hoping that I would be going to Abilene or maybe Bossier City LA. My lady lives in Clovis, hopefully we will get the wrinkles in our relationship ironed out.

Where abouts do you live in NM? Maybe we can get together sometime and visit. I would welcome any and all chances to get to know and be involved in some of the local area and community things. Especially when it means that I will get to know some of the people in the area. A lot of the people that I knew that lived there have moved away or I haven't been able to get in touch with. I used to talk with a guy that worked for one of the farmers, but he wasn't there when I visited in Aug/Sep 01. Also used to keep company with a couple of the local independent shop owners that are no longer there.

Sorry about the long reply, and not feeling to enthusiastic about returning to Clovis. Didn't mind the time there too much and did have some fun. Hopefully I will have a good time there again, but the way things are going right now with my lady I do wonder about how things will turn out. Jim

Yep Alvin and the gang are still going strong in Clovis. We have 15 stores now. I don't know how long you've been away, but they put a store in Abilene last year.

Bill,
Try this website I am a retired mechanic and mostly had metric tools, so did not have the larger tools for my tractor when I bought it. Northern has a good looking imported slimline set with lifetime warranty and I have put a lot of pressure on these with no breakage yet. And like you I had spent most my time buying snap-on and did not wish to do so for these projects.

YEAH, THE PRO WRENCHES ARE REALLY GREAT,BUT, HOW OFTEN ARE YOU GOING TO USE THEM? THE ONES FROM HARBOR FREIGHT ARE GUARANTEED FOR LIFE. I JUST BOUGHT A SET FOR LESS THAN $30 ON SALE.SOMETHING TO CONSIDER.

Next time you see a Snap-On Truck chase him down. They only sell out of their trucks, and will always be heading to a repair facility to sell tools to the mechanics where you can buy something.

Thanks, the last time I contacted them they refused to sell over the internet. They would only tell me to contact someone who does business only from the back of a truck. That makes it a lot easier because I have to use crutches to get up into the truck.

Been there. I would suggest checking out Harbor Freight. Yeah they are Chinese tools, but you can get a large set for less than the cost of one wrench from the pro tool guys. How often will you use these big, specialized tools?

Most of my tools are brand name that I've picked up at garage sales and flea market over the years. However, sorry to say, my 3/4" drive Taiwan socket set is about the best $40.00 I ever spent.
