Be careful with floor jacks as well as any other type jack, always use stands after you jack something up,it only has to come down once to leave you like me.

i have a floor jack that wore thru on the bottom of the casting of the pump housing, they sit very close to the ground and often get scapped if the floor is uneven or on gravel, check that out before you buy a seal kit

Yup -- leaky seal. Top off the fluid with fresh jack oil and you'll probably find the jack will lift to full height -- but it'll just leak out again. Sears should have the parts, and replacement is usually pretty straightforward. But, depending on the cost of the seal and the shipping and the age of the jack, you might consider replacing it. Floor jacks have gotten cheaper in recent years (thanks, unfortunately, to China).

I guess "cheap" is relative. Back in the early '70s I bought a 1-1/2-ton-rated floor jack from J.C. Penney for, I think, about $150. Today, I can get all kinds of 2-1/2 to 3-1/2-ton full-size jacks for far less -- as little as $57.99 for a made-in-China one from Menards. But I'll bet they won't last as long as my old J.C. Penney, which is a little leaky but still quite useable. (And then there are the little car-trunk mini floor jacks rated at about 2 tons that you can get for less than $15 on sale. They can be handy, and they'll lift one corner of a car, but I sure wouldn't want to go long without a jack stand under that corner if I were working on the car. Two tons seems to be pretty optimistic!
