I've read here and other forums about folks using a pressure washer for removing loose paint and rust. Just how much pressure will I need to effectivly remove old non-original paint and long caked, hardened grease? Will a high pressure washer do this without a sand blaster attachment?
thank,
ray

I just finished cleaning a '47 Farmall with a 2400 psi pressure washer; I used the Castrol purple degreaser applied with a garden sprayer to soften up the paint and grease. Check out the web page; the Sept. 19 and 20 shows before/after pictures. I did the whole tractor 4 times and finished heavy grease deposits with a metal scraper and wire brush.

We did a 50 year old tractor with a 2200psi, 3gpm unit powered by a 5.5hp engine. Did a good job, but spent quite a while, over several days - made a major puddle. Used a commercial car wash detergent, with the detergent injector. Had a few places where a paint scraper was used to remove the deep sludge first. Do not recommend trying this with a much smaller unit.

1400 psi from a small electric washer does wonders. Just use a little oven cleaner first.

Never use sand on a running tractor. Seperated parts are ok but stay away from seals.
