I have a cheap Poulan chainsaw that the oiler has quit working on. Is this repairable and how should I go about it.
Yes I know that I should have a husky or some other brand and if I could have afforded one I would have it but we make do with what we have.

Clean oil tank and pickup filter. Take filter off hose and spray brake clean in hose. Pump oiler or run saw and see if solvent starts coming out. If it does, refill with bar oil and try it, may work OK. Just saved an old Craftsman this way.

Hey, don't knock the poulan stuff. It is fairly good cheap stuff. I have had a Weedeater/Poulan string trimmer for over 10 years. I lived in Florida for about 7 of those years and used the trimmer year round, about 2 hours a week. Only maintenance performed during that time was 1 new air cleaner element, a new fuel line (1.00), and lots of string. Haven't even changed the spark plug. Not bad for $69.95 !

First make sure you clean the bar groove, oil pickup port on the bar, and the oiler port on the saw. Then clean out the oil tank with gas. Then you could fish out the oil pickup tube and clean out the screen/filter. Run it with the bar off and see if it is pumping oil. This may solve your problem before you look at the oiler itself. If that doesn't do it, you'll probably have to take it to the shop.

I just put an oiler kit in my poulan 325 it had a spiral gear that went on the crank and a plastic gear that drove the oiler it only lasted about 3 hours and gave up again I ended up buying a new saw. the parts were cheap only about 40.00 Canadian but I found out the gears could be bought separately the cost for them was only about 12.00 if bought separatly. so if I were you I would try to find the part numbers and go to a site like www.jackssmallengines.com and see what you could get for it. if you go to www.poulan.com they have some online parts books for the smaller poulans.
