Finally got the 10 hp generator running, now it won't make any current. What should I check?
Thanks!
Kelvin

Well, the obvious is the brushes, are they worn, or making good contact? The ammature may also be corroded and oxidized so brushes make no contact. Generator manufacturers recommend that you run the thing periodically to prevent this from happening. Does the unit have fuses or a breaker? Check for them. How about the wiring? Is there continuity in the windings? You may need to have the unit checked by a competent electric motor shop.

You will have to polarize it to get it to work if you have it apart or it sets long time. I had it happen to mine I took it to a guy that energized it with 12 volts but don't ask me how he did it. He told me sometimes all you have to do is over rev the engine a couple of times.

Thanks For the response, guys. I've tried twice to repolarize the armature. Still doesn't work.
What do I do next?

If you put it away working, and now it doesn't, it may well need repolarizing. On mine, you just apply 6V to the rotor (thru the brush connections) momentarily. Polarity not important. Don't do this with it running ;)
