I've got your standard 2 ton engine hoist with hard small steel casters. I store it in a shed behind the garage when not in use. When I need it I have to hook up a trailer to my cub cadet, move everything out from in front of the hoist, load it on the trailer... drive around to the drive way and unload it to use it..the reverse when finished.. I want to add some turf tires to it to make it easier to move... I've got a general idea of what I want... easily added and removed... swivel... can roll on rough ground... ( those little steelies don't get it in dirt) and reasonable in cost... I've got some ideas, but thought maybe someone has already engineered this for me....

any suggestions ???

TIA

John

A friend of mine welded a set of 6" diameter casters with pneumatic tires on top of the rails that the steel casters ae welded to. When he wanted to use his cherry picker in the dirt, he just pulled the square tubing out and turned the tubing over to the rubber tires. Works great for him. Hope this helps.

I'm sure you are referring to the small 3 legged cherry picker with a hyd. jack? If so, mount two turf tires on the back, and put a small hitch on the top. When used on concrete in it's normal position, the steel castors will be on the ground, when when towing, flip it up where the two legs are in the air, and the turf tires are on the ground, then tow it with your lawn mower or by hand. Don't design it where the turf tires take the weight when in normal mode. Hopefully you can picture this from how I described it. When I was a kid, I did not have a truck, so I made one to latch to the back of my car and I pulled it like a trailer. It had an old modified boat axle welded across the back of it. When in normal use, the tire were a few inches off the ground. By chaining the lift arm to one of the legs and jacking it tight before I flipped it on its back, it kept the jack and lift arm in it's place.

I once rented a large cherry picker type engine hoist, that had large hard nylon wheels for use when it was being a cherry picker, and two thirteen inch boat trailer type wheels when it was pulled like a trailer. These were on the upright piece and cleared the ground when the picker was in use. One tilted it over backwards the wheels touched down, and there was a hitch at the top to pull it with, this hitch normally pointing at the sky when it was in use. John in Ne.

I welded a piece of heavy wall 3/4" pipe with a piece of 5/8" solid rod through it with a wheelbarrow wheel on each side..... a hitch at the top like "John in NE."said he rented....works good to pull it around the place..... .
