Any one own one of these? I was at my local store that sells reconditioned stuff, and I found a makita hammer drill, model hp-1501k for 60 bucks. I was looking for a corded drill to buy with my birth day money. It was either this one or a dewalt for several dallars less. I got the makita because of the name, it had hammer drill feature, it had a case, and because it was 9/16 versus the 3/8 on the dewalt. So did I do good? I won't use the hammer feature often and when I do it will be for small bits. So does makita make pretty good hammer drills? So basically is makita a good drill for the money?? Thanks for the insight, Chris Smith

I have owned a 3/8" makita hammer drill for about 18 years now. Being in the siding business , I've furred out many whole houses over the years , using the makita drill for drilling concrete , fire block , stucco , etc.. At first , I thought it may be a little on the small side for the amount of work I would put it through. But , it's still going strong. Very good drill.

Makita drills, and other tools, are good. If you ever find yourself wanting to drill a lot of holes in concrete, however, you'll do better to go to SDS. Not that the drill is better, but the drill bits are a world of difference. I had a perfectly satisfactory Bosch chuck-type, using mostly 3/16" bits (dozens of them), until I got an SDS drill to see if the bits would last longer. Wow, what an incredible difference. Faster too, but I think that had to do with the drill (Hilti).

My used, not rebuilt, Hilti was the same price ($60) on ebay. I'm VERY happy. Sold the Bosch.

Been using a Makita hammer drill for ten years after buying it at a flea market and doing aminor rebuild. It has done a lot of work and is still going strong.
