A buddy of mine seems to always have the neatest gizmos when it comes to using his torch. I'm sure if you have a steady arm, unlike me, you probably don't need them.

He has a circle cutter - Torch clips in and spins on a small adjustable point near the handle. Works like a compass or divider.

Straight Cutter - about a 8' rail the torch clips into. You set the rail up like a straight edge and the torch attaches to the side of a small trolly which rolls on the rails. When cutting a lot of plate, he can darn near make it look like a saw cut.

Pipe centering tool and center punch.- Upside down V with a small level built in and a center punch built in. Great for BBQ Pits, bumpers, and other pipe work.

Metal templates that clamp around the pipe for marking the saddles.

Does anyone know of an online supply store that carries some of these items? Again, I know you can do the job without them, but man these make life easy sometimes.

I find a handy item is a piece of wood that acts as a prop to keep my body from swaying when I'm stick welding is a big help if I want a good looking weld. Even though my hand is steady I'm balanced on only two feet and sway. If I had three legs this would make a steady tripod setup. Can't have everything I guess!!

Is your buddy buying or making his gizmos? Most of the items you describe could be fabicated simply enough. My "ironmonger"and I have built items as follows. Circle/radius cutter-based on cb antenna magnetic base and telescoping tube(s)with setscrew, pivoting on stud... Straightedge-8' piece of small(1"?)I beam with"trolley" made from 2 sealed ball bearings and bracket... Rod/Dowel center markers made from pipe caps or such with hole in end for small center punch... Tube/round drilling jig from aluminum angle and plate....

Sometimes it's interesting what you can develop from your"junkbox" on a rainy/cold day with a little thought.
