Thanks for all of the input. I went with the Porter Cable, As there were more nails avaiable for it in my local area. Thanks again, Dave F.

Any of the major brand nailers will be fine. Frankly, other than small differences in appearance, color or some small "convenience" item, they are all in the same ballpark as far as reliability, durability, etc.

Personally, I don't like clipped head nails. The head is what's holding one side of the connection, so the more "head" you got, the better the hold.

Consider also the availability of the nails. Lowes and Home Depot generally carry a large assortment, but sometimes it might be harder to find one type or another, or even various lengths.

Buy a gun that you can get nails for easily. That may sound silly and even trivial, but after working part time for over a year in the tool department at a local Home Depot, it is an issue at times.

I bought a DuoFast 325 that I've been very happy with. Bought it used, and it turns out that they give you a lifetime warranty .. which I've needed once for a blown O-ring. All the brands you mentioned - Paslode, Stanley-Bostitch, Porter Cable - are good. Senco is another brand that used to be well regarded. Whatever you get, you'll like it .. as long as your air compressor's up to the job.

Hello,

Something to consider is your local code requirements as some juridictions won't allow clipped head nails on framing that is structural. That said I have a Paslode clipped head that I got at the local HD and it came with a nifty carrying bag and some safety glasses. I don't do a bunch of framing but it sure is handy when I do. Watch you fingers as it really hurts if you shoot one. Good luck.

I have a Stanley-Bostich coil framing nailer. Drives full-head nails from 2" to 4". I like the full head nails better, but the magazine for coil nails can get in the way if you're trying to shoot nails in tight quarters. It has a convertible trigger, either "press 'n pull" or "bounce". You can really put the nails to strapping or decking in "bounce" mode.

Been very happy with it.
