How hot should a air compressor pump? should you be able to touch it during operation? Also how often should you change oil in the pump and what kind of oil should i use (I brought it used without manuel)

Air compressor heads and tank lines get hot. I built mine to run slow and cool, and you stil can't keep you hand on the head. However, the crankcase shouldn't get more than warm.

It's best to use synthetic compressor oil (I got a quart at the local bearing shop), but most any 30wt non-detergent oil will work. Change it once a year for normal operation.

The high side tube to the tank should blister your hand within a minute or two of coming one. The heads should get hot. The lower end of the crankcase should not get hot until about 1 hour of continuous duty. I have a two stage with three heads. Two pump into one.

If you are going to use it a lot then buy compressor oil. If it get used rarely then 30 weight would be ok. That is what i was told.
