Rather than risking life or limb as 99% of belt dressing gets applied to moving belts. Replace the worn V belt pulley, they do wear out and loose the straight edge. Or replace the old hard belt be it flat or V. If the belt still slips, the pulley needs more area via being larger in dia or wider in width. A worn/polished smooth flat pulley needs machining true and a cross hatch pattern rolled or machined on.

Have used roofing tar (asphalt) and have seen others burn a piece of rubber inner tube and allow dripping material to fall on inside of moving belt.

Another brand was "Pulmore". Came in a flat pint can with a small metal nozzel like 3 in One oil. Looked a lot like molasses.

Some fellas round here use molasses. Said they got the idea from some Amish people.

Hi Leon,

I have an old tube of belt dressing that I got probably 25 years ago or so. It is a cylinder of dressing about the size of a cartridge that goes in a grease gun. Although they say not to apply it to a moving belt, presumably for safety reasons, that's how I used to use it. It is (was) made by Cling-Surface Company, Buffalo, NY. I have no idea if they are still in business.

Yup, that's what dad used. Never read the tube, must be a short stub left somewhere. don't know anyone who didn't put it on a moving belt? Guess that's why it's (probably) not made that way any more.

There is the squeeze can (red, Pullmor or somesuch??) and spray cans now.

Yep, me too! I have a local(Ace) hardware store order me a couple sticks when I get down to 1/2 stick left. I use it for V belts and flat belts cause it lasts much longer than the liquids/sprays.
