I must replace the adjusting screws on the 3 point lift of my MF Super 90. I have a lathe and can thread new stock. I would like to start with 1" dia cold rolled steel. I can order 1018 from MSC, but do not know if that is cold roll or hot roll?

Also the female parts are stripped. Are there any suggestions for repairing these (1"-14 tpi x approx 2" lg)?

I usually repair a couple of these a year for a local tractor repair place. You are dealing with left and right hand threads. For the tubes I will bore the threads out and internally thread some round stock to fit the bore. I use a tap for the right hand threads and single point the left hand threads on the lathe. Neal

If you're not going to weld it, I would use leaded C1045 steel, it machines well.

C1018 steel could be either cold rolled or hot rolled. It is an alloy number only. Like many alloys, it is available either CR or HR.

I use 1 inch threaded rod.Than weld a 1 inch nut inside a pipe coupler (1 and a half or 2 inch I forget)than weld the coupler to the part of the hitch where the female threads are stripped. The coupler gives more welding surface than just a 1 inch nut.Works good.

I use Enco.com for my metal. They have the acme rods and drill rod if you want to makethe part. I don't like cold roll for threads.
