Ted, punch this link. I was recently referred to the site while searching for info on an old WWII surplus Army generator I recently acquired. The site deals in all sorts of old generators, and you can post questions just like you can on YTMAG:

I looked around using google.com and I believe that is an APU from a Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina. (maybe other aircraft as well- which explains the 28 volts). Nothing jumped right out, but a maintenance manual for the PBY may include that generator. Concentrate your search on aircraft generators since it is possible this unit was used in other planes as well. Hope this helps.
