I have a 79 Ford F-250 converted to a flat bed stake truck. I want to build a bumper for the rear that would incorporate a trailer hitch. I also may convert the flat bed to a flat bed dump in the future. Has anyone built a bumper they are proud of and would like to share a picture or description of it I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

I don't have pictures, but back in the 1970's I had a small farm, and had a 1952 Chevy 1 ton with the standard stake bed, and a trailer hitch welded to the frame. I added a dump from a 1 1/2 ton dump truck I found in the junk yard. I cut the frame off behind the spring shackles and added the pivon from the dump truck. I replaced the wood runners on the bed with channel and welded it to the portion of the chassis I cut off behind the pivot. I reinforced the chassis in the middle anbd attached the PTO driven lift assembly.

The truck I have now is a GMC 1 ton with single tires and a service box. It has a rear bumper made from 8 inch channel. The ends have been notched and bent in at a 45 degree angle and the top and bottom are welded together, it gives it a nice beveled look. It is attached to the frame with 3/8 inch thick angles, and has diagonal support. I have a wiring plug in the bumper with a coiled wire to my trailer. There is a receiver welded underneath it. There is a rack over the top made from 3 inch square tubing and closed in at the top. It extends over the cab, and has posts that extend up over the cross pieces to keep lumber from sliding off. This isn't the thinwall racks you buy, it is 1/4 inch thick steel tubing.

I'm gonna convert my ton truck to duals and build a flatbed for it in the Spring. The stock box has a hoist under it that I will be using to tilt the flatbed.

My stock box has about had it, and I could sure use more capacity for hauling hay, etc. I'd love to see a good, rugged rear bumper design that incorporates a hitch receiver, trailer wiring jack, and well protected tail lights and license plate brackets.
