Woke up this morning and realized - Hey, I don't have a power finish nail gun! For occasional use, reasonable "hobby" type use should I have battery or air (got lots of air). What brand: Porter Cable?

Your in put will be appreciated! Thanks!

(How's my spellin'?)

How much Air by volume is used to shoot one 16g finish nail, from your finish gun. What is the MAX pressure a 16g finish nail gun can safely hold. Thanks,
Andy

I've been GC for over 20 years and have numerous
nail guns. I agree with most of the respondents;
Senco is my fisrt choice. I also have several
Bostitch guns that rate a close second place. I
know someone who has a Harbour Freight gun and he
claims that for _occasional use_, it has performed
satisfactorily.

OK Bob , for hobby use , most all of the guns are ok. But from a proffetional point of view , here is my opinion. Not shure if spelling is correct , but here it goes. Hitachi , pasload , Bostich , senco , etc.. And in that order. Assumeing full size finish nail replacement , get angled head for finishing nail gun. Lets you get into tight places. Get bump feed. Get ajustable nose.

Yep, finish nailer (air!) is a dandy tool to have. PC, Senco, Pasloade, Bostitch are all fine, as others have pointed out. I've also had real good luck with DuoFast. DuoFast used to come with a lifetime warranty but don't know if that's still the case.

Good luck .. (& keep it oiled!)

I use a senco sfn 2 almost exclusively. Air delivers a fresh puff of air with each nail. battery/butane delivers stinky exhaust. And air hoses almost never get hung up or gets all in the way..... ..

I been bending nails since 1971. I dang near threw my hammer out when I put a SENCO SFN2 in my hand in 1981. Now you can choose what whatever,
but for my hard earned cash it is SENCO all the way.

Air nailers are one of the neater tools ever invented, especially for us old fahts with carpal-everything. I can't drive a dozen nails in row with a hammer anymore without being crippled for a month.

I've got a framer, a roofer and a finisher, all Stanley-Bostich, and am tickled spitless with all of them. Like most things, ya gets what ya pays for, and one name is about as good as another from what I can tell.

My PC 15 ga finish nailer is very good and reasonably priced. The 2002 model was redesigned to be a little smaller and lighter. Check out Amazon tools - prices seem pretty good and they have free shipping right now. I believe Home Depot has it for about $175. I like the 15 ga over the 16 ga for better holding power and more of a "finish nail" look. I use my PC framing nailer more - I don't know how I ever got along without it. I've also used the Paslode gas fueled gun but while it was convenient with no air hose to mess with, I don't think the performance is as good - also, costs about $350.

Nail guns are like hammers or screwdrivers -- you eventually have to have more than one to do various jobs. I've accumulated about a dozen, ranging from a 23-gauge micropinner to a full-head framing nailer. What do you want to use the gun for? If to replace actual finish nails, you'll probably want a 16- or 15-gauge. I like the 16 -- smaller hole to fill -- but a lot of guys prefer the angled 15, especially for crown molding. But I use my 18-gauge guns an awful lot, too, for thinner material. I like Porter-Cable (my 16-gauge and framing nailer are both PC). But I also have had good luck with a couple of Craftsman guns and a couple of Campbell-Hausfeld guns. I also have a few Accusets (really nice) and even a $15 Harbor Freight special. I can't really complain about any of them. I use them with compressors ranging from a teeny 2-gallon tank on up to a 60-gallon. Since you have a compressor, I'd go with air rather than battery or electric. If you want more details, e-mail me.
