Other than welding, is there any way to repair about 5 or 6 small, 1/8 inch, holes in the bottom of a 100 gallon tank? I'm thinking epoxy but I'm not sure how gas would affect it. Any advice or comments?

If you have 5 or 6 holes in the bottom of your tank....the holes are caused from water rusting away the bottom of your tank....you will have to get a new tank....the whole bottom of your tank is about ready too go..... .Don

Thanks guys. I'm not going to attempt to repair. Now does anyone have any suggestions on what I can make out of this tank? I hate to throw it away.

You can probably sell it for scrap metal, but you will need to cut a hole in the end so that they can see it's empty. There are laws about hauling tanks, and the main one is that they have to have the hole so that they can see there are no hazardous materials. the hols should be big enough to put a head into. The junk yards usually won't take them without a hole. The junk yard where I sell won't even take a 55 gallon drum without a hole. If you don't want to be bothered and there is a traxh pickup run by the community you can put the tank out and people like me will come by with a truck and trailer and haul it away.

With that many pinholes, you are asking for BIG trouble down the road. Tens of thousands of dollars in cleanup these days for spilling more than 5 gallons. Seriously. This is nothing to fool with. Your tank is just shot, with that many pinholes, it will fail in other spots. Start over with a new tank.

The epoxy that comes in 2 short strips & you knead together with your fingers does work well, but your tank is beyond repair based on exposure to liability....

I've successfully soldered a steel gas tank after epoxy failed. Alvin's got a point but I'd mostly worry about spilling that much gas into the ground. Is there a catch basin?

sounds kind of odd but I fixed one with bondo,it has held for several years now.needs to be sanded or wire brushed clean and dry. the parts stores have a stick of stuff you mix between your fingers and rub on it.it 'll work too.

i would replace it. Gas is too costly and too dangerous to take a chance on a poor tank. If it has that many rust holes and you get them to stop, it will surely start on another place. That is my .02 cents worth.

I vote with Alvin! You're fighting a losing battle, the holes are a symptom of the entire tank conditon, resulting from allowing water to sit in the bottom of the tank. New Poly tanks are available to withstand chemicals, but must be shielded from the damaging effect of the sun.

Look for a product called SEAL ALL, it comes in a yellow tube and sets up instantly when it comes in contact with gas. I offer this info just to generally inform..... ...not to endorse the repair of that tank. Have used it many times on auto/truck gas tanks and some repairs have lasted for years, if truly just a pin hole.
