I bought my compressor years ago when there were half a dozen style hose connectors and now I need a couple extra only to discover the style I have is no longer avaliable at Home Depot or my local super-we-got-everything-hardware store. Seems they have filtered down to 2 styles - "industrial" and "automotive". Im just about to switch out all my conectors to new style stuff. Question is, - any pros or cons to either of these 2 styles?

I have been using the Milton "M" couplers for years. Working in an autobody shop, they make it easier to connect faster. With the tool connector, there is a short tail on them. The female connector that goes on the hose is a bit fatter than other couplers, but you can just push the male into it without needing to pull the sleeve back. Also, working like this, most others have preferred other types of connectors, and they are not compatible with mine. The advantage? I am not asked if they can borrow my tools, resulting in breakage, extra use etc. We have to buy all of our own hand tools. I do however have a couple of "adapters" made up, just in case I weaken, and decide to let the others use mine when the need arises... The adapters have a female of mine, and the male of their connectors screwed together. Tough on the outside, but still a little weak on the inside. I was promised I'd get tougher all the way around as I got older, oh well..

I agree...only buy the brass ones, the steel ones will corrode. I have had the automotive type for 40 years now...I don't think they are going away.

I use a different design for my paint sprayer so that there's no possibility of connecting it up to an un-regulated air source.

Me thinks the std automotive would be OK. I have had very good luck with the push/popout short ones made by Schrader. As my air tools increased, over time I had to refit everything. Always buy 2 or 3 extra, then you have them incase you get another tool down the road. There were several brands and it seemed you could never find the kind that you had. I think manufacturers even change design periodically.

the shorter ones are easier to connect and fit into tighter places but wear out quicker and the longer ones will last longer. I only buy the brass ones.

Kendall, go to your local automotive parts house, I'll bet they have at least 4-5 different connectors and the right one to match to yours. Since I don't know what style you have, one that I don't like is the lincoln style, supposed to be the safer connector, but if you drop your impact or other tool the long tube of the male connector likes to brake off. my 2 cents chris
