I manufacture rotation and Tilting devices for the antique car restoration market. It allows easy access to the underside of the vehicle. I was wondering if anyone thought a device like that would be helpful in restoring tractors. Having grown up driving a '36 JD D, I have a soft spot for old tractors.

Snowmobiles, make one for snowmobiles...
Yeah, I know they're small but EVERYBODY tips their sled up to change the track.
I could have used one that rolls completely over this summer when I cleaned a fuel tank. Took alot of labor flipping that thing around...

Rather than tilters, how about a nice tractor separate kit that can be broken down for shipping with good steel casters on it. Something universal and safe, for say, the older 50hp tractors and smaller? john in ne.

Yea, since tractors mostly have a couple feet of belly clearance I'd not really want to tilt them over - pretty easy to work on as is. But some good seperator rollers, that would be cool!

Not sure what you mean by "nice tractor separate kit".

Joel,

In order to some engine and tranmission work on tractors you ordinarily have to separate the engine from the transmission. Since the structure of the tractor is the engine and the transmission housing, this is a serious operation. This is further complicated by the fact that tractors have a front axle pivot such that the front half (the engine) does not always want to stay upright after it is separated from the transmission. Some sort of dollys that fasten to the tractor to hold the two halves up off the ground at an adjustable height and to allow you to roll the two halves of the tractor around independently would be real useful.

Email me if you need further clarification.

I use two landing gear legs from old semi-trailers with wheels on the bottom. You can attach them to the implement mounting pads, it doesn't take to much fabrication and they can safely handle tractors up to 200hp. For smaller tractors I built an adapter for a 2.5t floor jack and attach to the bottom of the tractor. I routinely split tractors from 8n Ford to 1586 INT by myself with this technique.

He is talking about a rolling support.Adjustable ,"up and down"--"left and right" for splitting a tractor for clutch or TA replacement..... .you take the tractor apart, the front 1/2 and the back 1/2.....you need a way to support each half and be able to move it around..... crank adjustments to re-aline, the two front and back.....when you put them back togeather.....

You can get to the underside of most tractors without much problem. Not much to do down there anyway. How about dollies that went under the wheels so you could could move a tractor around in a shop by just pushing it around? Another thing that might be useful is a dolly that you could bolt to the front or back half of a tractor if you have to split it to do engine work.

I contemplated making a rotating platform to do repair work on. Don't really need to tilt anything, but a rotating platform in the shop would be nice at times.

Have you tried those dollies that you put under each tire? They are cheap at Harbor Freight and make it easy to move a vehicle any direction you want, assuming you have a smooth concrete floor. They really free up space, as you can push projects sideways and out of the way. Real handy!
