I am interested in purchasing an Abrasive Blast Cabinet from T.P. Tools and Equipment. I would like to have some feedback from an owner of one of these units. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

I have had a TP "pro" something for two years - it replaced a much lessor know, smaller cabinet. TP makes good stuff! TP knows it's business. AND, most important they bust their tails helping you get the right cabinet for your needs. Super people. A pleasure to deal with. DO CALL THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE & "chat" about what you need!

Eastwood also has good cabinets, but not as many choices - also an A #1 Company!

Oh, & post about your air supply is VERY important! The bigger the cabinet the more air ya gotta have..... ....

Tony,

I bought one of their kits containing the hardware and directions to build cabinet of wood. This is a way to get a larger cabinet without breaking the bank. It works well.

I recently purchased a bead blast cabinet after several months of research. I am in the auto restoration business. I don't use my cabinet daily, but I do use it several times a week. Every cabinet I looked at started at a thousand dollars, and went up from there. I finally bought one from Harbor Freight for $200 plus tax. It is built in China, has horrible electronics on the lighting arrangement and will leak like a sieve unless some type of dust vacuuming system is used. I knew this going in, and I still bought one and consider it a good investment. I used clear silicone to stop the leaking problem, utilize an old half worn out shop vac for dust collection, and made filters out of scotchbrite and course furnace filters to eliminate the media being sucked into the vacuum. I power this thing with "Big Bertha", my 40 cfm Quincy compressor. Naturally, I utilize all the water traps, filters, and other widgets that you need to keep garbage out of the air stream. I fixed the light problem with a $3 switch and an $8 transformer from Radio Shack. I consider my blast cabinet to be used in light to intermittent use, and have saved several hundred dollars in the process. Good luck and enjoy your blast cabinet. All the best..... ....Greg

Thanks Greg, I need all the help I can get with this as I know nothing about these units. I have a small unit I use outside but would love to have one for small items,ie; battery boxes, lights. TPat

Pat.....I couldn't justify the cost of an admittedly far superior blast cabinet from TP or Eastwood. People who advised me all gave different reports about these things. Made the whole procedure far too complicated. A friend had gotten one from Harbor Freight, so I went over to his place with some parts and used it. He pointed out all its faults and what he had done to correct them. He was satisfied with his. I am satisfied now with mine, although I have done some "re-engineerig". All the high priced units have one-piece cabinets, which are sturdier and more leakproof. Mine is in two pieces, with a fairly chintzy rubber sealing arrangement. I replaced that with auto weather stripping, sealed with silicone, a very thin coat. Then I tightened the bejeebers out of the bolts, and, in conjunction with an old shop vac and some scotchbrite filters, have contained the leakage and dust. I fugure I saved a couple thousand dollars in the process. If I were using a blast cabinet all the time for heavy duty use, I would definitely opt for the units from TP, Eastwood and the like, and pay the money required to own one. The secret to successful blasting, as has been pointed out already, is the largest compressor you can get. I have a 40 cfm Quincy and it does a fabulous job. Pressure is not the issue, volume is the big factor. I run 120 psi and have lots of volume. If you have a small compressor, and pressure drops to less than 80 psi, it takes eons to do a simple job and people become discouraged. Hope this helps. All the best..... ..Greg
