I bought a shipping container for storage and found about thirty empty propane tanks mostly 20 pounders with the valves removed. Any idea what I can use these for other than take them in for scrap metal ? portable air tanks ? fishing buoys ? windchimes ? target practice ??

I removed the valves on mine and filled them full of 30-06 holes for practice then scrapped them.

How did that work out? I've got some 100# tanks that we need to get rid of but the state says they won't take them unless I drill holes in 'em.
I asked the lady if I was supposed to sit on the tank while I drilled it...

Where are you?
How bad are the 100# tanks?

After the valve is removed some propane can remain, use a small hose that will go to the bottom of the tank and fill slowly with warm water. This will remove the propane fom the metal.
They make good air tanks.

I'd be real careful using them as air tanks! I never checked the thickness, but my boiler inspector said they are not good for much pressure...maybe only 30 psi.

If they are standard 20# propane tanks, they should be good for regular air pressure, 100-120 psi.. Propane usually is at up to 170 psi as I recall. I have used empty Freon tanks for air capacity, but then I have it pressurised onlywhen I need air. Fred
