Hello,

I just bought most of a forge with the name Buffalo Forge Co. on the blower. It looks like there are some pieces missing from the blower. I thing there is at least a gear cover and crank missing. The shaft that turns the gears looks like it supposed to have a crank, and turn the gears. There is no connection between the gears and the shaft with the fan. Does anyone know what is missing?

Thanks, Dennis Benson

You're right, it was most likely hand-cranked.

Mine is not a Buffalo, but I'd expect they'd all be similar. On mine, the shaft the fan is on also has a gear that meshes with the rest of the geartrain. Is there a bushed hole in the casting where another stub shaft and gear might go?

There is a shaft going through the fan, but there is no gear on it, it had been taken apart recently, and I suspect they didn't replace the gear on the fan shaft. It looks like if I'm aptient I can make another gear and cut the teeth with a hack saw. They are helical teeth, and the gear is about 1 inch in diameter.

Buffalo forge is still in business.I know for sure that they make huge industrial blowers and I believe they still may make tuyere and blowers for the blacksmith.I would suggest consulting with Cumberland General Store catalog.
