Are these saws pretty good? I was just given my grand dads old one. It seems to cut pretty good and true. The table seems a bit loose, but that is about it. Now my other question. It is mounted on a very heavy metal base. There is also a jointer on the other side which adds more weight, but it doesn't work.. This thing is hard to move around an such. Is it possible to make a wooden base to mount it on? This would make it lighter and more portable? I have seen a few like this before. Has anybody done this before? Any input is appreciated.. Thanks in advance for any help..

Chris,
I had one for quite a while . It was a good setup for smaller work .The tilting table does not work really well for sheet goods . I finally sold it and got an old heavy Walker Turner cabinet saw . The jointer is a handy item sometimes . What is wrong with yours ? Might be worth fixing .

Let us know . One of us might be able to help .

The weight is designed to add stability and keep the vibrations down. You might look at mounting casters that you can step on to roll, then release to get the base back down..
