has anyone bought pittsburgh tools fron harbor freight ,I was looking at some and was wondering if their lifetime warranty was the only good thing they had going for them.I don't need the best ,but don't want wrenches that bend when you use them.

Many of Harbor Freight's combination (boxed/open) wrench sets are now of excellent quality these days, fit and finish are quite improved. I compared a $12 set to my older Craftsman and the Pittsburgh wrenches are better finished, even the 12 points inside the box end are more sharply machined than the Craftsman, plus the Pittsburgh wrenches are longer for better leverage. HF's better screwdriver sets are also nice. Their impact sockets aren't bad, made out of chrome vanadium so they're thicker than some cro-moly sets, but I've never broken one and finish/fit is also great. Their hammers, mallets and crowbars are all fine and even their cheap torque wrenches aren't bad. I don't care for their adjustable wrenches or ratcheting laminated wrench sets - get Craftsmtan or GearWrench for those. Bottom line if you shop carefully you can find good tools at Harbor Freight.

I have carried broken tools back and they give me another new one.

I don't know about mail orders how it works but they just go get you another one off the shelf when you walk in the store with the bad one.

I have bought some of there impact sockets and big wrenchs to use, abuse and loose. So far I have just used and abuse them. Can't seem to loose them. Mabey thats because my kids are no longer living with us? My neighbor uses the wrenchs to work on his backhoe, and they have held up to his misuse and abuse. Never tried out their warrenty policy so no help there. Would do the same thing again, only sooner altho my Mac guy would not want to hear that.

It's OK stuff I've used them and have broke some, never tried out the warranty tho I figure I can buy another set for what the freight costs would be to get a replacement, there also handy when you need to tweak a wrench to get it into some places $5 Pittsburgh vs. $45 Mac the Pitts. wins in my wallet.

They are not bad for the ones to carry in the truck for occasional use or for the tractor tool box. But they don't match the top USA brands. Never tried their warranty on these.

Kind of like a buffalo or jc whitney special I figure.good enough to use and cheap enough to loose.

If price is only consideration that would be what we should buy. I doubt if you will find a lower price or poorer quality. Buy best you can afford or perhaps feel guilty for your extravagance in buying better than you can justify.

Price is not what I was looking at.I have two chest's full of snap-on and Mac I just like to keep cheap stuff to keep around the farm, when you plow under a set of vintage Mac sockets it gets expensive,if you plow under some chinese who cares. I just wanted to know if they were too cheap to use,I 've had sockets you could break with one hand, wrenckes that would bend.

I think the main weaknes of those type wrenches are the jaws will spread and round off a bolt with just a moderate amount of torque applied. I've not had much trouble with the box end though. I consider craftsman sockets cheap (watch for specials) and no shipping hassle for warranty replacement. But I am like you, " use the cheap stuff where it could get lost".
