I have an older Sears 1hp portable compressor that still works well except for one thing . . . after the pressurized tank fills . . . and you attempt to turn the knob to direct air through the outlet hose . . . the knob that you turn is not engaging . . . it's like it's stripped . . . or it has come out of its groove. Even when I try to push it in and turn under pressure . . . it still won't grab. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure exactly what you're talkin about but the air shutoff valve should bleed off the air in the hose when in the off position.I built a compressor for myself and all I had was a water valve and I left the packing nut loose ,works fine ,when it is opened all the way it is sealed and when the valve is closed the air in the hose leaks out the loose packing nut.and is probably alot cheaper than the right valve.

Is this just a valve for the outlet? I would replace it with a 1/4 turn ball valve. I have a 2hp model that I changed the regulator, etc. to more common parts.
