OK Rod , There is so much involved , I would be here all night. So I'm going to point you in the right direction for now. If you have any questions , feel free to E-mail me any time through out your project. I personally would stay away from any lumber company siding. you would have to work with many brands of siding to understand and feel the difference in the quality between lumber company siding and siding bought from a siding wholesale supplier. Vinyl sidings evolved a lot over the years. Good brand names became bad , and bad brands became good. Many went out of business. some brands bought out other brands. And so on , and so on. Like the other post mentioned; the middle of the line siding is the same quality as the upper line of siding. The difference is not the quality of the material. The difference isthat the middle of the line is solid vinyl/solid color. When you step up from the middle of the line , your talking blended colors , laminated sidings , darker color sidings. Darker colors have more fade dampening ingredients. Some sidings have a sun block to help prevent fading. Heartland vinyl siding is one of them. Other sidings are putting fade warrantees on the siding , saying there panel will not fade any more than 3 shades. I believe Alside vinyl siding is one of them. Like I said , this could go on and on. Here are the sidings I use. Certainteed Main Street , Certainteed monogram , Wolverine American Ledgend , Alside Oddessey. Certainteed has the most colors. All three brands are good middle of the line sidings. There are many others. Stick to a siding thickness of .042--.o46. The thinner panels are kind of skimpy. The thicker panels absorb to much heat. Dow board is the best insulation behind vinyl siding. Use 3/4" dow board. It is tounge& grooved. Do not use foil faced insulation behind vinyl siding. It reflects too much heat back to the siding. If your in a windy area , TYVEK house wrapp is the best. It does make a big difference by blocking the wind. Use TYVEK tape on the joints. When it comes to the aluminum for wrapping fascial boards , window and door frames , etc. , use PVC coated aluminum. It will hold its color and brightness much longer than non PVC coated aluminum. Make shure the J-chanel is built into the aluminum trim around the windows and doors.Use OSI caulking. The OSI quad is better yet , but does not flow good in cool temperatures. Use some kind of vented vinyl soffit material. Like one of the other post mentioned; more important than the material quality , shop around for a darn good installer. A good installer can do a good job even with lesser quality materials. Keep me posted. And don't hessitate to contact me for assistance.
