I think I've got it! ":^)

Thanks to all who replyed to my earlier post. Having rigged it per Tom's suggestion, it works MUCH better. The only remaining problem is that the rope I have available to rig it with is too small for the sheaves, but I wanted to get some traditional manila or hemp rope to rig it with anyway, so that's just a question of parting with a few bucks.

Thanks again, 'preciate the assistance.

Congradulations, your blocks look wonderful.

However, I would like to make a small comment. It is important to get the lines so that they DO NOT cross over one another. You seem to have a place where this happens. Lines crossing lead to excess friction (bad for your back) and rubbing of rope (bad for the rope).

Tom's earlier suggestion is illustrated in the 4th drawing at

I see where I went wrong trying to follow Tom's directions. Thanks for the clarification, I'll try that when I get home from work tonight. That's the clearest picture of the procedure I've seen so far.

Now that you mention it, I recall the term "reeving". After 22 years in the Navy, you'd think I'd have picked up on some of this stuff...

By the way the process is known as "reeving" a block.

Hi F-14 , It looks good. Glad things worked out for you. I'm just curious. Can you let us all know wether you used the fixed point on both blocks , or the fixed point on one block only.

Lower fixed point only. As I stated in another post, the only reason I put fixed points on both blocks is to have the option of using one or the other. Never intended to use both.

Well I am glad I was able to help you out! It looks good hanging there. Part of my suggestion was to have the lower block turned, or twisted, so the axle in it would be perpendicular to the upper one, or taking it as it hangs there and putting a 1/4 turn twist in the lower block and then threading it up. It may seem like it won't work, but it will. It will also work the way you have it too. Having the lower block twisted makes it look different too, so people wonder what you have done, that is if they even notice.

The blocks are supposed to be at right angles to each other. Each time the rope goes through a block it goes the opposite way than the time before.

Apparently, I mis-understood your instructions, then. I started out with the bottom block turned 90o, but when I took tension on it, it turned around to line up with the upper block. I'll go back and re-read and rethread, just to check it out as another possibility.

Thanks again for your help.

Paul

Well it is possible I didn't explain it as clear as possible. It not all that easy to explain clearly, although it is easy to thread up once you get the idea. If you have a problem or it doesn't come out right just say so and I will try and be moe clear, or word it differently.
