I have a Lincoln SP175+ MIG welder. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to do light TIG welding using to MIG's power supply to run the TIG torch. I have some light gauge sheetmetal that needs welded and would prefer to TIG it.Your thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

jeff you cant use a mig power source to tig weld with becuase it is a consant voltage based machine where a tig welding power source is a constant current power source, i think miller has an xmt 300 that tou can change from constant current to constant voltage .but thats the only one i know of. HI

Jeff

Dan is right , I know of no way to use a Mig for a Tig, You can use a ac/dc for a Tig power sorce. How thin are you talking? I can weld tin cans with .030 wire on my SP 150 , very hard to do, slow going .040 metal is a good thickness to weld, that is the braking point. If I remember right, been some time sence I have done very much of that welding. You can try a different gas, to better match your base metal, and change wire to the thinest your machine can handle. Like .023 if that is it, I have never had to go that thin , never had that much thin work below .040 base metal.

I would say 75/25 gas , and a .023 wire Good Grade

Good luck !!
