From reading past postings I realize that some of you folks are pretty sharp when it comes to computer problems. I've got one.

Whether printing from the net or the scanner, I've determined that my printed isn't putting out any green ink. There's a new cartridge in there now and the results are the same.

Any ideas on how I can fix this myself? It's an HP720C ink jet. I went through the cleaning procedure. That's when I realized it wasn't printing green. I got the big solid black line followed by a pink one and a yellow one. The green line did not appear.
Thanks,
Steve

Just before you get ready to toss it, fold over a couple of paper towels and smack that sucker down hard. You should be rewarded with a color splotch. (three if its a tricolor cartridge) Then install and use hard immediately. I've saved a couple this way in the past.

No green ink. The ink set is cyan, magenta, and yellow in the cartridge. Sounds like you are outta cyan ink.
Use distilled or deionized water to clean the business end of the cartridge with tissue and q tip and di water to scrub your contact pins. Still no cyan, check to see if there is cyan background refrigerator art in the house.

So you can't print in green? Here are 2 suggestions:

1. Switch your loyalties from John Deere to IH. Then you won't need green!

2. Become a farmer. Farmers are always in red ink!

Hi Steve, Had a problem like this not too long ago. I'm going to tell of on myself. This may not be your problem. Ran out of ink went and got a new one and put it in. While in the middle of this procedure I was talking on the phone. Got done and printed same problem no green. Did all the procedures. Was going to get a new cartridge and try that. Kept the "old" one for a keepsake I guess. Looked at the one in the drawer my goodness it was the new one Put that one in and it worked fine.

I hope ya'll enjoy this. We had a good laugh over this one.

Hi Scott, you must be over 50. That's when I started doing things like that. I think it's for the amusement of our wives.

Even if the head is new, clean the print jets with a damp kleenex. DON'T use alcohol. The ink in the cartridge is water based and alcohol can damage the plastic and other parts of the cartridge. If that fails, check the contacts and make sure they are clean. As mentioned before, the little cleaning sponge also gets filled with old dried ink and can mess up a new cartridge.

clean the contacts on the back of the cartridge and in the ink cartridge carrier. I usually use alcohol (90%) or a monitor cleaning pad (also alcohol). also if u put a dry paper towel on the bottom of the cartridge it should bleed ink out of the cartridge. you can very gently clean the bottom of the cartridge with water or alcohol pad. aviod getting your fingers on any of the gold contacts on back and in carrier as oils from skin will keep them from working. sometimes the cartridges will dry out if not used regularly. and on occasion you may get one that is bad. try a new one. Also realize that HP inkjets and most other brands are disposable printers. HP will send you a refurb for 100-150 dollars. I don't recommend it as a new model will cost about the same or less and has a longer warranty.

Print head is probably clogged. Run the head cleaning cycle several times. Also, in the "at rest" position, the cartridge carrier/print head assembly rests on a sponge pad to prevent leaks. Dried ink builds up on this pad and gums up the works. Clean that up, and try a little alcohol on the print head assembly.

Useta be able to take 'em to an authorized HP service center for a good cleaning, but they're throw-aways now, nobody around here will work on 'em.
