I am looking for a table insert for an older cast iron table saw. It is 3 3/4" wide, 14 5/16" long, and 1/8" thick. The original had 4 leveling screws. Sears tells me that it is obsolete and can't furnish parts. Home Depot has a good selection but nothing like this. Holler if you can help me out. Ed

Thanks for the info. guys. I think with your help I will be able to make myself a good insert that will help me get another hundred years out of that Craftsman saw.

Ed;
I've done the same thing as Vern, except I used
aluminum sheet stock- about .090" thick. It's
been in use for about 30 years.

My father in law makes a lot of stuff like that out of hardwood. Jigs, supports, you name it. All it does is keep the parts from catching down it the saw.

I made one out of 1/8th" masonite. You will need a pattern. Take a piece of heavy paper, lay it over the hole in the top and tap around the edge very lightly with a soft hammer to cut the paper on the metal edge. Use this pattern to lay out the shape on the masonite (tempered hardboard) and cut around the mark. Trim to fit as required. Put the insert into the hole and move the fence over it but stay clear of the blade area. Start the saw and slowly bring the blade up through the insert. You can also use other means to hold the insert down. Good luck

I have several I've made just that way (except I use a piece of hardwood planed to the proper thickness) for dado blades,shaper blades and other special applications where the standard insert won't work.
