when i was a kid my dad was overhauling his 800 ford a mec from the local dealer brought a tool out and polished the rod journals with the crank still in the motor, i have herd some oltimers talk about turning one journal 10. with this grinding tool, does anybody have any info on were a person could find one of these tools, or how they actually worked, i hate taking a crank to a mac. shop one journal needs work and they turn all 6 we just took crank out of a 1066 that a little polishing would have fixed, any info would b apreciated, , hope someone reads this that if nothing else can explain how these old grinders worked, the one i remember looked like a skill saw with 110 electric motor thanks

I'd take Don's description, that it's possibly a Sioux, and start watching EBay. May take a while, but chances are sooner or later you'll see one.

These grinders operated on a rod bolted to the oil pan flange, in line with the crankshaft. The grinder had a link system that let it move both up and down and left to right. The grinder had a small abrasive wheel on the nose with a bronze lined hook that went over the shaft throw. There was an adjusting screw to move the wheel toward the hook and another to move the grinder back to front along the support rod. There was also a motor to engage the flywheel and rotate the crankshaft. With the shaft rotating, you fed the wheel toward the shaft to start grinding and fed the grinder back and forth along the throw. In good hands, could do excellent work. Made by Sioux, I think. Sources unknown.

They were made by Sunnen and Winona. I have run both. Earl In Illinois
