I'm looking for a comparison between Ford's 460cid V-8 port injected engine with a 3-speed auto and the V-10 6.8L 415cid with the 4-speed auto overdrive. Horsepower, performance and mileage ect.

Thanks,
Dusty

I don't know where to get the information, you are looking for....Both engines you are talking about are gas engines...The 460cui w/C6 auto. trans. is the past generation...when set up right ,a great work horse.I had one in a 24' motor home.Over the road pulling my Arostar van, with the cruse set at 68MPH = 8.4MPG avg. every time. That is with 3" dual exhaust out the side in front of the rear wheels. The v10 with the 4 speed auto. I understand is even better....I have a friend that has a large towing busness(14 tow trucks, all Fords)he told me the gas v10 will out perform his new ford diesel....these two are slidebacks...his larger wreskers are dieasel, two of them are tri-axel...

Ok, V10 -V12 engines are about torque. They will have the most of gas engines. This is what launches you off the starting line, but if you want to maintain velocity or increase acceleration, you have to Square the horsepower. This is due to factors like friction from wind drag. Due to high compression, diesels make better working engines. They get better mpg while having better torque values. Diesel compressions are around 17/18-1 whereas gas compressions are around 8/9-1 on modern engines. Ferrari uses a twin turbo v-12 for horsepower, which is better for speed. So once you know this you can choose according to the use you have for the particular engine according to its specs. Hope these ideas help.

Hi Dusty,

To go along with what Thomas said, look at a semi diesel. A typical engine output is 550hp with 1500ft/lbs at 1600rpm. A V-10 gasser 300hp with 420ft/lb but at 4000rpm and and over twice the rate of wear of a diesel.
A PSD 275hp at 2800rpm, 200hp at 1600rpm with 520ft/lb at 1600rpm
