Will one of the small twin tank compressers like contractors use with 4 or 5 gal tank run air tools like impact, grease gun etc. Looking for a small compressor I can take to the field. Some of those have gas engines on them and i would not need a generator to run them. Thank You for your input

I use a twin tank, holds 8 gal.with a 5 h.p. Honda. It will run a 1/2" impact gun but not 1" gun.Not good for spraying paint.Mine runs a trasfer pump for tire repairs and other field repairs just fine.I guess it just depends on what you are doing.

Any air compressor will run any air tool, but it's a question of how long. I can usually take off one or two wheels using a cheap impact wrench with a 5 gallon portable tank. Maybe ten seconds of using an air hammer, or 5 gallons of water with a pneumatic diaphragm pump. You could do this with a little contractor compressor. You'd then wait for it to recharge the tank. If you can stand that, then go for it.

The ones with the gas engines usually have pumps big enough to run things more-or-less continuously. Larger tanks, too.

Hi Jim,

You just need to look at two things, CFM and Pressure. See the requirements for the tools you want to run and see it the compressor will keep up. I don't think you'll be able to run the impact wrench without emptying the tanks.

You will need a larger compressor, you woulden't be happy with the contractor compressor....Look for a good used one...take your tools with you and try them....Call around and ask the dealers questions.....
