I know this is off the tool subject but this is the best place I know for advice. A buddy has a small shop and I took my wifes 96 Explorer to him to repalce the clutch. Truck had 115,000 miles on the thing and was getting slow to get in gear. With the miles I thought the slave cyl. for the throw-out bearing was weak, the trans. had to come out so might as well put in the press. plate, clutch disk, slave cyl, master cyl,ect as a pack. The flywheel was taken down .002 and the machine shop said it looked great. To make a long story short this thing will not go in gear running. He has bleed this thing three times and it will get better for a short time (like 2 blocks)and goes right back to not shifting. No fluid leaks on the slave cyl. or master cyl. lines. I'm in BIG trouble at home. She wanted to take it to Ford I wanted to save a few bucks for tractor parts. I toast and need help fast.

Hi Will,

Sounds like to me you haven't got the slave and master bled. On the superdutys you have to bleed the slave by manual pushing the piston in slowly so the air travels to the master with the master higher than the slave. It will not bleed installed on the truck. Maybe the explorer requires the same.

Don't know about Fords, but if the slave cylinder is reassembled backwards, same problem. (upside down)
