i have two issues with an old 14" super 2 homelite chainsaw. first, there is a vent hole in the gas tank. there appears to be the remmants of a piece of foam glued to the inside of the case that must prevent gas from leaking out when the saw is tipped but still allows the tank to vent. this foam is missing. any ideas on what i can use?

second, lately, the saw started spewing out chain oil from near the engine rear sprocket area. something must be wrong with the auto oiler but not sure what it is. any ideas? took the saw apart but could not find any obvious leaks.

I have a super 2 homelite chain saw. I haven't used it in years. I tried to start it and it seem to be flooding. I adusted the two carb screws and it started. I turned both screws in. If I put the screws back where they were it won't run. Does anybody know the proper adjustment for these screws. I think one is air and the other fuel. One big screw and one little. Any help woud be appreciated.

Thanks,John

you should try cleaning out the carb and put a new sparkplug in it.

John: One of the screws is for Low speed adjustment (marked L) The other is for High Speed adjustment (marked H). turn screws clockwise until they bottom out, then back out 1 and 1/4 turn. Try to get your max Rpm with the High speed adj. then adj. your low speed to where it will idle without dying. then you may have to touch each up a little to get your best performance..If they will not adj. properly check for loose screws (especially the crankcase and cylinder screws). Also check the muffler for obstructions. Roe

The C-9 was introduced in Late 1962 as the largest of the 'C' Series (C-5, C-7). Later versions were built (C-51, C-71,C-91 and last C-72 which was last made in 1982. I can provide a illustrated Parts List 6 pgs $3 /copy $7.95 /original postage included. I can also provide copies of the 12 pertinent pages from a Shop Service Manual $6. Some parts are still available in the system, others will have to be sought from other 'oldtime' dealers.

Go to this link for all the info you can get on the C-9. Check out the rest of the site while you're there.

The C-series are virtually worthless money wise, but still good saws. Try the Hawkins Brothers in Shelbina, MO for parts. Their phone number's 573-588-4731.

I have a Homelite chainsaw model #c-52. Can someone tell me what information I need to get a new chain or where? The chain I have says on each link #38. Is that the number of links or the length of the chain?

Any help appreciated
