Some posts back there was a discussion about using a tig torch with a buzz box welder. What about hooking the tig torch to the dc output of a mig welder while turning off the wire feed and gas to the mig . I have a Miller 175 Mig.I guess you could control the gas manually and the heat with the voltage control??

Hi Kenneth,

You need a CC (constant current) power supply and the Miller 175 is a CV (constant voltage) power supply. Some Mig machines do use a CC power supply but very few do.

All DC machines for stick welding are CC and some have both CC and CV but these are usually the higher grade machines.

The gas solenoid can be used for cover gas for either Tig or Mig. The Tig torch would have a control switch for it. There is also a manual slider gas valve on a Tig torch.
