Before taking our mower to a repair shop thought I'd give this a try...

Several weeks ago my hubby was using our push mower and did who knows what to it. It's louder than it was and now let's you cut maybe a 10 X 10ft area before it dies and won't start again. I've checked the oil and gas but that's about all i know of mowers...Hubby knows less. he's not very mechanically inclined. my stepdad says maybe it's choking but then what? any idea on a fix i can do?

Sounds like the muffler is gone. This will cause the engine to over heat and shut down or cause the fuel in the carb. which is proubly just above the muffler to vaporize thus causing what is know as a vapor lock.

We need to know the brand to determine whether it is two cycle or 4 cycle. Also tell us if it says "Briggs and Stratton" and if it has a horsepower rating on it, tell us that too...

Go out and buy a can of carb and choke cleaner and spray it into were the air goes in first you will have to remove the air filter then spray that in several times and run it see if it makes a difference. If not then spray the cleaner in right when the engine is beginning to die if that makes it run for a couple more seconds then that means there is something wrong with the carb so it will probably require you to take it to a repair shop.
