I saw a news spot that supposedly demonstrated Classic Coke as a rust remover, bolt loosener and battery top cleaner. Anybody seen it used in those roles?

I quit drinking it years ago and noticed fewer trips to the dentist. Maybe I was too hasty in my rejection of the product.

If your nuts get rusty, you can always use Coke and drink the rest

I have been in shops where they were using Coke as a lubricant in the pipe threading machine. As an added bonus, it smelled just like cotton candy when the friction heated it up.

Miracle product isn't it? Maybe we should relabel some of it. Of course it would require a hazardous material label for shipping.

A buddy of mine claims it works just great for getting slip fit aluminum tubing apart too. Just get some to trickle into the joint and the tubes come apart. This is on boat masts.

Guess Coca Cola makes enough money the way it is.. they could rename it and start a whole new market it would seem.

I've been surfuring the net for rust removers and coke is often a kind of solution. Molasses is my lastest discovery. 1 part molasses 9 parts water let sit for two weeks. The advantage over molasses is that it only removes rust whereas Coke eats the steel as well. Coke dosen't bother your stomach all that much ( at least in the short term) because there is acid in everyones stomach - of some type that supports digestion. All you health-care people ( non-coke drinkers) had better consider water - it eats steel and only leaves a little brownstuff after a bit - dosen't work as fast as coke.

Was in the navy (once upon a time) on island of Malta. Ship was on shore power and water. Several ships came in and water got salty. Went to town to get a beer and it was salty too. Coming back to ship there was a small boy selling bottles of Coca Cola. The writing on it looked like where crows been walkin on a mud bar but it didn't have salt in it. I drank two bottles of it straight down, it wasn't warm, it was hot!

when I was in the army a while ago {long while} the .30 cal. machine guns had a front bushing on them that would carbon up real bad with baked on carbon. Nothing would remove it except a soaking in Coke. Couple hours in the stuff and the bushing came clean. I think it is the phospheric acid in it. bo

I know this is off the subject a little but... I have a news paper article I cut out about sixteen years ago which described how coke kills sperm. diet coke didn't do it as well and new coke wasn't as effective as the clasic. Hope I didn't offend anyone with this info. Neal

I think they used to mention that in places like Playboy some years back. It seems like medical types also at the same time commented that Coke wasn't a reliable spermicide. Hard to believe it would do anything positive for fertility, all things considered, though.

This is a little off tractors, but anybody out there got anything to confirm or deny the success of this particular use of Coke?

The urban legends page has a bunch of Cokelore available. Among other rumors and myths, this one is identified as being of "unverified veracity".

It does quote the TWO studies done on this but points out that the method commonly described would not be very effective simply because the little critters are so fast.

Seems like when I read the article (and I only read the articles..haw haw) it said then that you couldn't trust it as a spermicide.

I recommend using diet coke if your working around engines. It works the same but doesn't have sugar in it.

And here I switched to that stuff because I thought it was healtier. A relief to find out that it's at least handy. Kind of a Red Green thing going on there...if the public doesn't find you healthy, they should at least find you handy...

I think Coke is (or used to be) fairly acidic...

Here's a story my dad told me... (belongs in tales ?)

During WWII he was in pilot's training in Texas.. in the summer.. The water had a terrible taste and all the cadets lined up daily to buy cokes at the PX.

One day, he and one of his buddies were assigned to help out at the PX and were opening drums of Coke syrup for the fountain. His buddy had a brand new pocket knife and managed to drop it in the syrup barrel..

Heck. Don't worry, it will be empty in a couple days and we'll get it back..

Well, they went back a couple of days later and
checked the barrel. There were 2 stainless pins and the brass bolsters from the ends of the knife
handle.. The rest was gone.

From that day on, my stayed away from the Coke...no matter how bad the water tasted..

My uncle used to drive a semi. He always carried a bottle in his truck to use on stubborn lugnuts/bolts. He always said it worked better than anything else.

It does a excellent job of cleaning corrosion off the battery posts in a auto and Heloise says pour it in your commode to remove the stains. I knew there must be a good reason I don't drink cokes.

It works great for cleaning bugs off the windshield---just soak a rag and presto no more bugs--
