A warning: On 3/01, I bought a Craftsman 16.8V cordless drill. I did not buy the extended warranty, being Craftsman, and the fact that I have never bought an extended warranty on a power tool. I've never needed it.

The clutch died last week. The warranty ran out in March. The salesman at Sears tried to sell me another, as the repair charge for the $90 drill was $69. I agreed with him that I would definitely replace the unit, but certainly not with Craftsman. Three emails to Sears have gone unanswered. It was a pretty good workhorse for the first year, when I seldom used it. Since Feb. I have used it every weekend on a construction project. Now we know!

About 8 years ago, I had a Craftsman 2-jaw puller break on me. I took it to the local Sears outlet and was told that since they did not stock this item that I would have to take it to another Sears store. I asked if they could order one to replace the broken one and was told basically that it would be too inconvenient for them to do that. Guess where I no longer purchase tools? Not only that, but it seems to me that Craftsman is no longer the quality leader that they once were.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Crapman has joined a lot of other old-time companies that would rather ride on their past reputation, than compete honestly in today's market with quality. When they actively advertise and market their junk towards the average consumer who has no concept of quality, and is not smart enought to care for equipment properly, why should they care about the occasional oddball who does.

When I returned a Craftsman stapler the other day because it was broke, thinking that Craftsman tools were guaranteed for life, the sales lady at Sears, that evidently had worked there for years, summed it up perfectly. She said "Craftsman does't mean a thing anymore".Way to go Sears. You are just going to force people people to go to Wally World when the ruse is discovered. You'll lose those customers for ever, just for some short term profit.

You really do have Sear's by the short hairs if they say lifetime warranty, (not limited life time) a call to one's State Attorneys Generals office would be a good place to start. Companies with life time warrantys have to honor them, But power tools from Sears, & the Sear's brand & there even junkier Companion Brand don't carry any warranty ther than 90 days if you are lucky in less you buy the extended warranty. So Buyer Beware, My 0.2 worth Dave F.
