Does anyone have any ideas on how to make an inexpensive driveway alarm? When I built my shop, I did not put any windows in it for energy reasons, now I find myself getting surprised by visitors. What I would like to have, is an audio alarm or flashing light come on, when someone drives in. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Why not just get one of the motion detector type lights, that everyone has on the front thier house? Split the wire that goes to the light to a bell or light on the inside of the shop..... Worked for me..... ..... ..

Northern Equipment has them, and I think Harbor Freight too.

use a old pressure switch from water well. connect air hose filled with anti freeze to switch. wire switch to warning lite or bell.

It's not a really cheap way to do it, but Radio Shack has a self-contained motion sensor that can be connected to an external light, bell, buzzer, etc. It might work for you. Here's the link:

This topic was discussed earlier on this board. Try the search feature on this board but try various phrases as it took me a few trys to find the discussion that I knew had been posted. Go to Link for some ideas. Al

We cleared the air last time but I'd guess that an old service station hose full of air that rang a bell would suffice this time, for a lot less money. Ebay occasionally has the hardware.

I'm still delighted with my driveway sensor but had to replace another x-10 unit after another lightning storm. It transmits both the driveway signal and the burglar alarm signal to our house.

Which device are you refering to? I am looking at a driveway signal as well for my house and shop, I already have a radio shake wireless alarm system installed in the house,, but my shop is over 150 feet away and the sensors wont work for the shop (or its because of a metal building I dont know), but I didn't see a driveway sensor that would work.. what did you use?

Thanks

Hi Joe,
I guess you missed Al 2's comments and link about a previous discussion. Take a look at

with followups, and then if you have questions beyond what's there, give a yell. I don't like wireless and gave a phone number for a system that's worked flawlessly for me for a few years, along with how I transmit the signal up the mountain to our house.
