Anyone know anything about the on sale 120 v elec wrench at Harbor Freight. It shows to have 240 lbs of torque for $50.00 Need one to keep in Motor Home to remove Bud wheel lug nuts when I have a flat and there is no other choice.
Is this a junk wrench and will it really produce 240 lbs of torque and is 240 enough?

Leon,
I bought one a few years ago but mine is a Jepson. Let me tell you it has paid for itself 100 times. it is pretty powerful and is far more convenient to grab it and a drop cord rather than air hose. I agree that a air is far better than electric but convenience is another factor. I use mine a lot. As far as my experience with Horbor Freight, I buy lots of tools there but I pick and choose. Some is obviously junk some is pretty good if not abused. I think the one you are looking at is made by Chicago (HF's brand for power tools). They look pretty good for individuals use. I don't think they would hold up in industry for long. Their hand tools (pittsburgh brand) have seemed to improve greatly. I use their wrenches and they are OK. I would say for what you are gonna use this for, it will hold up good.

Thanks for the reply's Guys. I will drive to town tomorrow and purchase the tool while it is on sale. My biggest concern was that it would not actually have the 240 torque. Most everything now is over rated. Leon

240lb/ft torque should be enough to loosen the lug nuts unless someone gets crazy tightening them. Impact wrenches usually have more torque loosening than tightening by design(RH threads). As for the quality, you really do get what you pay for. It will probably work because you won't be using it much at all, but for daily use I'd spring for a name brand unit. I have two units, a B&D, and a Makita. Both are good solid units and I'd rather use one of them over my air inpact wrenches.

Been getting these for the oil yard for opening barrels. Most times they smashed before they wear out making buying a top quality one not cost effective. Hold up well to daily use for some time, if they don't get run over first, the swicth usually goes first after about a year. These get some hard use, 20 - 50 barrels a day 6 days a week twice on each barrel. Have used them myself for pulling manholes off tanks and such but requiring high torque. They have hammered many rusted 3/4"-10 bolts from pipe fittings but torque is nothing compared to my IM6100 Snap-On air gun. For what you want it for, I'd say it'll probably serve you well and work for what you need.

We have had a couple at work over the years. Will never be anything nearly as good as an air powered impact wrench, but, as Mark Kw said, it would probably be OK for the use you described.
