I'm stumped! I've aligned the deck, there's no drag on the mowing deck pulley, there is no sign of the belt rubbing, it just seems to heat up and shred after about 5 to ten minutes of mowing. I'm on my fourth belt and need help.

Vince,
It sounds like one of the spindles or idler pulleys went bad. Try spinning the pulleys or spindles by hand, until you find one that won't turn freely. That'll be your culprit.

I nearly ruined a mower drive belt on my JD212 by not getting the belt on the top side of the bar the keeps the belt from jumping off the driver pulley. When the belt is tight, this bar is to be just a fraction of an inch outside the belt wide outer surface. I mistakenly caused my belt to have to rub over the outside of the bar, causing heat, drag, and tearing of the belt inside.
