Y'all who replied to my previous post asking for help regarding my 10" Wards radial saw...Al English had it right when he said it was probably the switch - that based on the fact that he has the same saw and has replaced the switch twice. I took the motor apart and cleaned it, checked brushes, which were amazingly good after all those years, and tested by bypassing the switch. The motor worked fine. Now all I have to do is find a replacement switch. We have an industrial supply that I'll try tomorrow, and if I can't find something close will use a momentary rocker for cuts where I have my hand on the handle, and a straight toggle in parallel for when I need to lock it on for rips where I'm using both hands to guide a board. I'll post back if I find a replacement switch so at least Al will know wher to look for his next replacement switch.

I also took the switch apart hoping that perhaps a good cleaning might do the trick. No luck! One of the contacts on the slider - it's a double pole single throw momentary switch - was entirely worn away. Don't know why it even worked once every 20 or 30 tries. Unfortunately there is no part number on the switch, so replacement will by by looking for one that's similar.

Thanks for your help.

try black & decker repair center. When my B&D radial arm saw motor was last repaired (1986) under warrenty the replacement motor said Montgomery Wards. Still running good, however not used very often any more. weak part on mine is start capacitor.
