My building supply dealer loaned me one as I purchased the nails and shingles from him. I used it a lot not only for roofing, when I built my polebarn. Sure beats hammering! Maybe you can borrow one, or lease one for a few $.

My on sale Campell Hausfeld worked just fine. I would have no problem recommending it for use to do a few roofs. The nail chamber is plastic, so I forsee replacement after 6 roofing jobs or so. A nailing gun will be your best friend in hot weather as it will save a lot of hours!

I have Bostitch brad and framing nailers that I have been pleased with. Often the larger builder supply places have the local Bostitch rep on site for demos. If you talk to this guy you can often buy the nailer at the same discounted price he would give if you were trading in a competitive nailer. Saved $100 on my framing nailer.

I've been tickled with my Stanley-Bostich N80 coil nailer. Done quite a bit of roofing with it, and will use it to do my house next month.
