I have a real problem with a broken EZ Out. I read in an older posting about a product called Tapaway that will disolve the tap and bolt. Does anyone know how to contact this company? I found their website and called the numbers but the toll free is disconnected and no one answers the local number listed.

A high carbon drill bit heated to cherry red and quenched in mercury will drill an ez out or tap. DON'T breath the mercury vapors.

steve , I had a broken easy out on my tractor broken off 1/4 inch down in the hole. tried heat , welding , icecubes , cobalt drill bits, left handed drill bits , pb blaster, kroil , praying and 2 months of soak time and still nothing . Mechanic at my work said too disinagrate it with a heavy hammer and a good punch w/ safety glasses . so I gave it a couple good heavy hits and lo and behold it worked. it litterally shattered into a black dust cloud . it was a 1/2 inch easy out

You can use that same method for broken taps. Trust me, I know first hand!

Realy neeed to know more...but I am guessing it is a small tap...blow any chips out of the hole ....you have either a three or four sided tap....as you look down at it,you will see the groves in the tap that don't hsve cutting threads....try to find small hard steel rods or pins...maybe cotterpins ..spread the cotterpins and cut them apart..the idea is to place the pieces of the pins down these open areas ,,,gently tap each one ,but don't force them into the thread.... now take a large needle nose or a flat jaw pliers grasp the pins and push down on the plier with a hammer handle and try to back out the broken tap..... .

If the tap is sticking out of the hole or right at the top ..I have placed a (bolt)nut, the size of the hole over the bruken tap.....now weld the nut to the tap .....take a wrench and back it out....the tap is very hard so use a high heat setting.....good luck.

Depending on what it's in, you can take it to a machine shop and they can burn it out with an electronic discharge machine. Similar to using an electric welder to burn a hole- except very accurate, the burned out hole will be the same size as before your breakage. Most times it's possible to use a sharp scribe and pick out the remaining bolt threads from the ID threads and just clean the tapped hole up with a bottom tap. I used this machine many times in our toolroom to salvage valuable equiptment. The harder the metal the better the machine works.

The machine Ray is speaking of is called a tap burner. However, you can take a small pin point torch and heat just the e-z out enough to take out the temper. Then talk to your neighborhood dentist and ask for some of his used dental burrs.
Most of the time they will give them to you. They are the only thing that will cut a tap or e-z out.
Even with the temper gone they are still needed. It can be a long drawn out process and you must use patience. I have done this many times while serving in the U.S. Air Force overseas. Good luck!!!!!
