I purchased this tiller without an owners manual and can't get it to till without the wheels turning at a running pace. The previous owner had just replaced the 2 belts; the wheel drive belt seemed too short and the width was obviously too wide, she put a 1/2" on instead of a 3/8". I replaced the belt with a longer, narrower one and still same trouble. The model number is GIL 39012 B (Montgomery-Ward rear tine). The machine is orange in color, has a tubular handle which can be pivoted from the tine side of the machine for tilling, to the engine side for transport by lifting a lever between the 2 hand grips in the top center of the handle tube. The control plate has a throttle control on the left and a single lever on the right for forward and back.
Anyone know where I can find information, manuals, parts, etc.? Thanks!

I believe these are the same/similar to the MTD rear tine tillers. You can get parts through MTD.

A neighbor of mine has a Montgomery Ward rototiller with a worm drive with a brass ring gear. This gear needs to be replaced. Anyone have an ideas of where to start looking? Also would love to know where to get an owners manual model # GIL-1589A

Thes Tillers were made by gilson brothers in Wisconson. they sold out to Lawn Boy Also Gilson made them for Ford. you might want to ckeck out onf of those dealers. I used to work for Parker Dist out of St Louis and we sold those tillers for Gilson they were great tillers

Just blew out the brass gear that drives the rototiller's tines. Any idea how to find one of these gears? I suspect that this tilleer was made in 1978. thx.

I've also blown out that brass gear on a Wards GIL 1595, circa 1977, rototiller. Does anyone have an idea how I can find this gear? I'll be calling Sears and Toro but I'm not hopeful...gratefully, Steve

I have a Montgomery Ward Rototiller model#GIL1575E. Anyone know the year? Need throttle cable, has 5hp Briggs & Stratton engine. I know I could use a universal cable but would rather have orignal. Also would like to have decal for it that says Montgomery Ward Four Speed Stick Shift.
